Food Bag Prep

Overview

Each week Kandelia packs food bags for 60-80 families at Seattle World School. The purpose of this program is to support food stability for recently-arrived immigrant and refugee communities in the Seattle region.

Kandelia receives a weekly donation from local food banks. Bulk foods are delivered to the cafeteria, where volunteers and Kandelia staff set up an assembly line to pack 60-80 food bags with fresh fruits, vegetables, dry goods, and culturally relevant foods. Foods are chosen carefully to ensure that families receive versatile ingredients that can be made into healthy meals throughout the week. Groups of 3-5 are ideal for this type of engagement.

Job roles: all volunteers participate in packing foods, distribution to students, and cleanup.
